A Beauty Re-Opened By The Lake

By Brian Weis

Lake Lawn in the Lake Geneva area recently reopened. If you have been there in a while you will pleasantly surprise with the recent changes. One thing that has not changed are the panoramic views of Delavan Lake. The new ownership recognized this beauty and cleared the thick underbrush and trees on the first two holes.

Locals have commented that course conditions have significantly improved thanks to new fairway and green movers. In addition, every golf carts is equipped with the state-of-the-art GPS yardage system. The screen indicates pin position on each green, and includes tips from our pro on how to play individual holes.

The course went through an earlier metamorphis in 1990 by renowned architect Dick Nugent. His signature still remains with stately oaks, deep sand bunkers and subtle undulations.

One example of the course's beauty is the third hole. Dan Plens, Head Golf Professional, explains why it is the signature hole. "Hole #3 is our signature hole. A par 5 that hugs Delavan Lake with amazing views. It plays all of 515 yards, it demands a well-placed tee up the right hand side to set up your second shot. Going for the green in 2 is an option but be careful bunkers and Lake Delavan are waiting for you. The two tiered skinny green is your last challenge."

But when asked which is his favorite he quickly blurted, "My favorite hole is # 2 an elevated par three that has a great view of Delavan Lake."

Lake Lawn is unique because it is one for the few courses in the state you can arrive by car, boat or even plane!
