Ask the average golfer in the Badger State to name the top courses in Wisconsin and instantly they will spout off - Whistling Straits, Black Wolf Run and Erin Hills. While these courses are on golf magazine's perennial rankings, most would never guess Wisconsin boasts one of the top municipal courses in the country. Washington County Golf Course, an The Arthur Hills design, received a 4 1/2-star rating and is ranked second in the nation among municipal courses by Golf Digest. Golf Week also rated the course the top muni in the state and 29th overall.

Notable Holes

#7 - John Statz, PGA Professional Club Supervisor, shares that everyone remembers this hole, because of the high number everyone posts. To tackle the 524 yard hole, (545 from tips) steer clear of the large pond on the entire left side. Water also comes into play on the approach shot with a marshy pond guarding the elevated green. One piece of advice, layup! The green is the shallowest green on the course just under 25 yards deep. Going for this in two spells nothing but bogie. Layup to 100 yards for the best chance for birdie/par.

#14 - To conquer the signature par-3 check pin placement. A menacing marsh comes into play the deeper the hole is on the kidney shaped green. An accurate iron is needed as there is no bailout to the right either with mature trees and a sand trap protecting the right side.

#15 - John loves the dog left, 369 yard uphill par-4. "The hole is just a great design and offers many different looks depending on your tee shot and pin placement. When the prevailing winds is strong you have a long iron into the green with a big false front. I really like number 15," shared Statz.
