Hidden behind a gated entrance just west of 101st street on North Avenue lies one of the more storied courses in Metro Milwaukee. Blue Mound Golf and Country Club hosted Wisconsin's first PGA Major in 1933. Gene Sarazen won the final match of the PGA Championship and hoisted the Wanamaker Trophy with a 5 and 4 over Willie Goggin. To the victor goes the spoils, his victory netted him $1000 in prize money. Almost laugh out loud funny in comparison to today's standards.

Interesting Factoid
Off the first tie stands the bust of course designer Seth J. Raynor. Raynor learned his art from Charles Blair Macdonald, the flamboyant designer known as "the father of golf course design in America. The duo believed there were only 25 great hole designs in the entire world. This theory is evident at Bluemond where each hole is marked with a plaque displaying the hole design name along with the course and hole that inspired it. One of Raynor's signatures, a Punch bowl shaped green, can be found on the eight hole.
