Destination Kohler Announces Whistling Straits & Blackwolf Run Course Openings and Stay-and-Play Packages

By Brian Weis

Destination Kohler - Wisconsin's golf leader and home to four internationally acclaimed Pete Dye-designed courses across Whistling Straits and Blackwolf Run - announces the openings of the Straits Course at Whistling Straits and River Course at Blackwolf Run on Friday, April 26. The Irish Course at Whistling Straits and Meadow Valleys Course at Blackwolf Run opened April 17.

Kohler Golf has collectively hosted six Major Championships with the Straits gearing up to host golf's preeminent international competition, the 2020 Ryder Cup. A ceremonial symbol linking the past, present and future of the Ryder Cup, the Silver Putter plaque is currently on display at Whistling Straits for guests to enjoy.

Destination Kohler is taking reservations for the popular "Dye-Abolical" and "Golf Kohler" stay-and-play packages. The three-night "Dye-Abolical" package includes four rounds of golf per person, one each on The Straits and The Irish courses at Whistling Straits and The River and Meadow Valleys courses at Blackwolf Run. Cart, caddie and forecaddie fees are included, along with a 30-minute golf lesson and gift pouch with logoed items. Complimentary replays are available on The Irish and Meadow Valleys courses. Golfers also receive a 20% discount at the Forbes Five-Star Kohler Waters Spa. Package rates begin at $1,014 at the Inn on Woodlake and $1,191 at The American Club, based on double occupancy.

"Golf Kohler" differs only in terms of stay (two nights versus three) and rounds of golf (three versus four). Play on The Straits Course - three-time PGA Championship host and 2020 Ryder Cup venue - and The River Course - recently ranked among the five best Pete Dye golf courses by Golfweek - is included. Rates begin at $781 at the Inn on Woodlake and $899 at The American Club.

"We're the only resort in the world featuring four golf courses by Pete Dye, who is widely regarded as the greatest architect of his generation," says Dirk Willis, PGA, Vice President - Golf, Landscape & Retail, Kohler Co. "With golf season fast approaching in the Midwest and with demand being strong, we encourage early bookings to ensure you can play our championship courses leading up to the best American and European golfers arriving for the 2020 Ryder Cup."

Destination Kohler's American Club is the Midwest's only Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond hotel in Wisconsin. Sister property, the boutique Inn on Woodlake, re-opened in 2018 after a year-long expansion and features new suites that are well-appointed for group travel.

To book, please call 855-444-2838. Groups of 12 or more are invited to ask about Ultimate Buddy Trip options. Favorites include Ryder Cup-inspired tournaments and pairing parties, special happy hours, 19th hole celebrations, team shirts, locker room name plates, and logoed tee gifts.

About: Brian Weis

Brian Weis Brian Weis is the mastermind behind GolfTrips.com, a vast network of golf travel and directory sites covering everything from the rolling fairways of Wisconsin to the sunbaked desert layouts of Arizona. If there’s a golf destination worth visiting, chances are, Brian has written about it, played it, or at the very least, found a way to justify a "business trip" there.

As a card-carrying member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA), International Network of Golf (ING), Golf Travel Writers of America (GTWA), International Golf Travel Writers Association (IGTWA), and The Society of Hickory Golfers (SoHG), Brian has the credentials to prove that talking about golf is his full-time job. In 2016, his peers even handed him The Shaheen Cup, a prestigious award in golf travel writing—essentially the Masters green jacket for guys who don’t hit the range but still know where the best 19th holes are.

Brian’s love for golf goes way back. As a kid, he competed in junior and high school golf, only to realize that his dreams of a college golf scholarship had about the same odds as a 30-handicap making a hole-in-one. Instead, he took the more practical route—working on the West Bend Country Club grounds crew to fund his University of Wisconsin education. Little did he know that mowing greens and fixing divots would one day lead to a career writing about the best courses on the planet.

In 2004, Brian turned his golf passion into a business, launching GolfWisconsin.com. Three years later, he expanded his vision, and GolfTrips.com was born—a one-stop shop for golf travel junkies looking for their next tee time. Today, his empire spans all 50 states, and 20+ international destinations.

On the course, Brian is a weekend warrior who oscillates between a 5 and 9 handicap, depending on how much he's been traveling (or how generous he’s feeling with his scorecard). His signature move" A high, soft fade that his playing partners affectionately (or not-so-affectionately) call "The Weis Slice." But when he catches one clean, his 300+ yard drives remind everyone that while he may write about golf for a living, he can still send a ball into the next zip code with the best of them.

Whether he’s hunting down the best public courses, digging up hidden gems, or simply outdriving his buddies, Brian Weis is living proof that golf is more than a game—it’s a way of life.
