Golf Course Overview: Brown Deer Park Golf Course

Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with Andrew Barrett who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.

How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area?
Location, course conditions, layout, and history.

Brown Deer Park Golf Course is the best/closest golf course from downtown Milwaukee (10 minutes). We are bent grass from tee to green with a challenging former PGA Tour stop and current LPGA Symetra Tour site.

Over time Brown Deer has been a national host to many events. In short three National Public Links over the last century, LPGA Symetra Tour for the last 5 years, and the PGA Tour from 1994 to 2009 where Tiger Woods made his professional debut and said "Hello World" in 96'.

For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property?
New tee boxes all over to fit multiple skills level for the course. With the overall faculty there has been many.

Almost a total clubhouse renovation; roof, ac/heating, new golf shop, new kitchen (great food), new deck, new patio, new tavern, new hallway with mini museum, cart staging area, road realignment to expand the practice area and more. I call it Brown Deer 2.0.

What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes)
I like 7, 8, 9.

#7 is our longest par 3 missing left or right creates a tough up and down.
#8 is the hardest for better player. Tee shot has to hit the line with the correct distance to ensure the trees won't bother you.
#9 is our shortest par 4. With a solid tee shot you'll have a wedge in hand to score. More trees can end that thought of an easy par/birdie. Plus this is close to the new tavern/deck and you'll have to deal with a potential gallery.

What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property?
Brown Deer Park has a long history with Hall of Fame golfers playing in exhibition matches in the 1930s! However, Tiger Wood in August of 1996 said "Hello World" to begin his professional career. He even got a hole in one during that week.

What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting?
We host many events. LPGA Symetra Tour, Badger Mutual Women's Amateur, many Wisconsin PGA and Wisconsin State Golf Association tournament along with other international, national, and local corporate golf outings.

Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility?
Brown Deer Park is a large park with tennis, basketball, frisbee golf, and picnic areas. It's a huge chuck of land! I personally hang out in our new tavern sports bar and then go play more golf.

For the traveling golfer, do you have lodging onsite or partner with any area hotels?
We do not, but being so close to downtown, we have many hotels and can recommend if needed.

Signature sandwich or drink?
We only serve Wisconsin brewed beer and offer popular craft beers our customers enjoy. My personal favorite menu item is the Southwest Chicken wrap.
