Golf Course Overview: The Golf Club at Camelot

Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with Jason Roos who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.

How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area?
We have some great elevation changes that most courses in the area can not replicate. We have two great par 3's and 2 great par 4's that run parallel to each other that overlook some great scenery. Our greens are huge with unique undulations that allows us to be very creative with pin locations. We also offer 5 sets of tee boxes for all skill levels including family/junior/beginner tees that allow everyone to feel welcome and comfortable on the course.

For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property?
In the past few years we added the "yellow" junior/family/beginner tee boxes. This set of tees has a distance of only 2602 total yards from tee to green for 18 holes. It is a great way to introduce people to the game of golf without feeling overwhelmed. Holes range from 95 yards up to 180 yards.

For 2018 we have added a full fleet of brand new golf carts with USB ports so you can enjoy the use of your digital devices while enjoying your day on the course.

We offer our in house catering service to events, weddings, fund raisers, and even offsite capabilities. A popular addition for our golf outings has been the Pig Roast which is made while you play.

We have an excellent craft beer selection comparative to most courses in the are that allows for a variety of choices for everyone.

We renovated what was called our "King's Lodge" and is now called "The Barn" which is a great area for the outdoor feel of a small Barn wedding or casual event space.

We are always extending our cart paths to help extend our spring and fall golf season allowing carts most of the time.

Every year you will find or see something new at Camelot.

What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes)
Front Nine Amen Corner In My Opinion: Holes 5,6,7 allows for an uphill par 4 to the hardest green on the course to hold as it is shaped like a horse saddle or Pringle as some say. If you can get by this hole with bogey or better you end up on an elevated par 4 hole number 6 tee box. Big hitters, if brave, try to reach the green but often find themselves in the water that protects the front side of the green that sloped back to front. Then you head to par 3 hole #7 with a sloping green and a nice water feature to carry from the tee.

Back Nine Amen Corner: There are so many great holes on the back nine but one could say the stretch from #13,#14, #15 gives you a nice variety of par 3, par 5, par 4 with ups and downs. Hole #13 most likely our signature hole overlooks the entire course and goes downhill which makes your club selection a tricky one. Often your ball is taken by the wind once it gets up an above the tree line. The green is huge and a par here is key. Then you head to the longest hole on the course #14 for a gradual uphill par 5 which is easily a 3 shot hole for most players. Then you find yourself elevated again on the #15 tee box. This goes downhill leaving yourself with a second shot that needs to clear the water to a green sloping back to front. The view looking back up to the tee box is amazing, especially if you can par or better.

Everyone has their own opinion and there are other great 3 hole stretches along your journey.

What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property?
There is a little known fun fact that the Niagara Escarpment otherwise known as the "Giant's Rib" starts in the Niagara Falls area and stretches 1000 miles through Ontario, over the top of Michigan, back down through the Wisconsin Peninsula and ends at The Golf Club at Camelot. This scientifically dates back to over 200 million years ago. Being at Camelot over the years I have heard stories (names will be kept private due the confidentiality of a pro shop attendant) that there may be a tunnel in the general vicinity of hole #13. Mixed in among the ledge rock the rumor is there is a tunnel that stretches from Camelot goes underground up through Wisconsin, into Canada, and filters out at the base of Niagara Falls. You can find a map of the this "secret" here.

There is also a Turtle we have named Myrtle that is self appointed to be thousands of years old. There have been many stories of guests seeing this Turtle over the years. Sometimes found in the back corner of the course around Hole #15 but also seen scooting slowing across the driving range to the pond by Hole #2. We ask our guest to be courteous of Myrtle as we would like her to stick around another 1000 years. She has been known to snap a few clubs to those who mess with her.

What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting?
We tend to host WSGA events every few years like the Net Partners (most recent 2017), State Am Qualifiers (2009), Mother/Daughter/Son (scheduled for 2018).

We also host a plethora of great charity and fund raising events for the area. The Stars and Stripes event keeps getting bigger every year.

Our in house events are also fun for everyone such as "THE" Golf Outing (may), Royalty Event (fall), and our Tough Pin Tournament (Columbus weekend sunday) that allows us to set up the course as tough as possible.

Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility?
If you want to spend all day at Camelot we certainly have a great weekday deal for you. For only $49+ we offer unlimited golf with cart, includes a drink and a sandwich. You can play all day until 4pm (generally our leagues will then start and the course play is limited). This offer is valid Monday through Friday and lasts all season long.

There are also 3 practice green areas and a driving range if you just want to work on your game all day.

Signature sandwich or drink?
We have had much success with our 5 rum par punch. This is available year round and in the busy months you will see a giant tube in the Main bar (Excalibur Lounge) where we mix Coconut, Mango, Banana, Raspberry, and Pineapple Rums along with some other special additions to make this a great drink for on or off the course.

We have a great pub menu and our signature burger is the King Arthur's Burger with Camelot's signature fresh hand pattied 1/3lb burger loaded with real Wisconsin Cheddar cheese, Thai Fire-braised pulled pork, fresh cut chips, seasoned onion rings with garlic mayo on a buttery Sheboygan Hard Roll. Or you can try our Jester's Jalapeno Popper Grilled Cheese with cream cheese, sharp cheddar, garlic herb cheese, and jalapeno's piled with crispy onion rings and stuffed inside a wood fired oven flatbread panini.
