Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with Scott Mowatt who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.
How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area? Lake Windsor Country Club thrives on having the best greens in the Madison area! Our superintendent takes our greens to a new level and you can expect for them to roll around 11's on a consistent basis.
For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property? The course has just finished a 3 year renovation project. The course was known for flooding during heavy rain months due to poor drainage. The drainage has been fixed and the front nine is completely new. Come check out the new design!
What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes) The 3 hardest holes in a row are 7, 8, and 9. Hole #7 plays 465 yards from the back tee's and has a river cutting through the middle of the hole. With a perfect tee shot you will be left with 175-200 yards in to this 3 tiered green. This is the hardest and longest par 4 on the course. Hole #8 it a 200 yard par 3 with a narrow green. The large bunker just in front of the green makes for a challenging par 3. Hole #9 is a short par 4 playing just under 400 yards, but there is trouble everywhere. Out of Bounds all down the left and the Yahara River all down the right and in front of the green makes for an intimidating tee shot. If you miss the green you will be left with a very difficult chip shot.
What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property? We have the Yahara River running throughout the golf course. We have water hazards on 15 out of 18 holes. It makes for a very difficult course.
What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting? We will be hosting the Wisconsin PGA Pro/ Pro event this October.
Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility? We have a full service restaurant that is known for it's Famous Fish Fry. Make sure to stop in after your round for a cold beer and great food!
Signature sandwich or drink? Our burgers are out of this world! They are always changing and you can get just about anything you can think of on them.
