Below is an interview with Jacob James who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.


Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Lake Wisconsin Country Club is a semi-private course that was built in 1925. Public is welcome 7 days a week. We are an 18 hole facility with a course consisting of 6 par 3's, 8 par 4's, and 4 par 5's measuring out at 5881 yards from the back tees. Don't let the number fool you, there is plenty of challenge out there for golfers of all skill levels with our elevation changes and our immaculate greens. With four sets of tees, there is a tee that all skill levels can find to ensure they really can get the most out their experience here at LWCC. We host golf outings, small groups, weddings, and business meetings throughout the year. Our mouthwatering fish-fry is served from 5-9 every Friday. We have a delicious new "The 19th Hole" menu that is offered 7 days a week starting at 11 (weather depending early and late season). Our staff is always ready to serve you with a smile!

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
Where do I start? There are many reasons everyone should come out and play our course. There are some great views out here with Lake Wisconsin being right outside our window and we have a few holes that run right a long that. Our grounds crew works really hard to make sure the course is always in great condition. Even though the course seems short on paper, there are quite a few challenges out there that can test some of the best golfers in the area, while still remaining very playable for the beginner golfers. We have a lot to offer with competitive rates and our staff will always ensure you enjoy your experience here at LWCC.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
One of the biggest things is try to stay below the hole. Some of our greens can be tricky to read and have a few slopes that will keep you guessing out there. Another tip that kind of goes with that is don't go long. A lot of our holes have trees behind them and the way some of greens slope, it can be tough to come back and get it close to the hole. Don't let that scare you, there are enough risk/reward chances out here that make the place very scoreable.

Any recent changes to the golf course? Or any upcoming changes?
We redid our back tee box on hole #2 last year. It was fully re-sodded and has grown very nicely. On our signature hole on #12, we made some improvements so that is back open and available for play after it was unplayable for a few months. We have taken quite a few trees down the last few years and that can provide a couple different opportunities to hit some different shots on a few holes.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
What makes me most proud about Lake Wisconsin is how the course can provide a challenge to some very high level golfers while remaining very attainable for the less avid golfers. The course is always in great shape and everyone that plays it always comments on how the conditions are great and the views they get on some of the holes is second to none. This will be the 56th year we have hosted the Dairyland Open as well. To have an event that some of the top players around the state come to each year, that should tell you a lot about our course. Some of them have played on the biggest stages in college or on a pro tour, but they always show up for that event. So to keep that event going has been a great experience. We do everything we can to grow the game of golf and provide exceptional service day in and day out.

What Is The Signature, Most Talked About, or Most Photographed Hole?
Hole #12 is a par 3. Our back tee has the ability to be placed on the island tee box, measuring out at 181 yards. The tee shot from that tee box can be intimidating having to hit over the water, but if you can keep that out of your mind, birdie is still possible when you hit a good shot. The view from that tee box is great because you are standing out on the lake and a great backdrop in the distance with some trees on a hillside can provide for a great picture opportunity.

What Is Your Favorite Hole? Any Tips to Play It?
My favorite hole out here would probably the par 5 13th. If you like a hole that makes you think, you will enjoy this one. For the longer hitters, it is very reachable. The tee shot is pretty straight forward with a bunker within reach on the right side trees lining the fairway on both sides. If you find the fairway, you have some options and this is where it might make you think. If you decide not to go for it in 2, there are two bunkers about 80 yards out where you might try to get your landing spot. Then the last 20 or so yards, there is a nice down-slope that funnels towards the middle of the green that if you go for it, could help you or if you land on it, it could potentially send your ball over the back of the green. There are also bunkers on each side of the green that you have to worry about. If you're dialed and feeling good, eagle is a possibility, but even if you lay up, it still takes three good shots to make birdie.

Must Have Dish or Drink after the round at the 19th Hole?
Who can go wrong with an Old Fashioned? If your around for our fish fry, our Parmesan Haddock is very good. I am a steak guy, so I like the Ribeye. Our lunch menu has a lot of great options. My favorite is the French Dip or the Chicken Cesar wrap. The burgers are very popular here as well.

For the traveling golfer, do you have lodging onsite or partner with any area hotels?
We do not have lodging on site. We are very close to Madison and about 40 minutes from the Wisconsin Dells. Which we usually get a lot of play on the way to or from those places. There is a hotel in town called the Cedarberry Inn which is just across town from our course.
