Golf Course Review: Rivermoor Golf Club
touch and accuracy at a premium
Much tougher course than meets the eye. Don't let the relatively short yardage fool you. Fairways are tight and, if you miss, be prepared to hit creative escape shots from the trees. Small greens are tricky, quick, and sloped. Short game must be sharp to get up and down to save par. A few par 4s are short and only require an iron off the tee. Course is built on an old quarry and the underlying sand and gravel drains fast, which is good in wet weather. Greens are true and beautifully conditioned. I've been playing here for years and the character of the course still is enjoyable. Too bad they scrapped the original bar overlooking 18-green. It's now a generic sports bar with a Packers-aesthetic and lousy beer selection (bring back the Hacker-Schorr Weiss on tap!)
